An Essay: Indonesian Education System (Problems and Solutions)

20.41 Posted by amaliasals No comments

For about 13 years I have been a student in Indonesia, I have gone through many difficulties. The hardest part of being a student is when I have to be able to master many subjects at the same time. To make it even worse, the school system is so concerned with the grades of the students instead of the knowledge itself. Besides those, another problem is that the quality of Indonesian teachers is still low. Those problems can be solved by cutting back the subjects, improving the skills of the teachers, and focusing on the knowledge instead of scores.

The first solution is to cut back and simplify subjects in school. Too many subjects can make students stressed. Add to the fact that people have their interests and dreams. It is impossible for a person to master all of the subjects at the same time. Even the most genius person in the world is not really genius as in mastering all things in this world. Cutting back subjects and simplifying them can make the burden of the students and the teachers disappear. With fewer subjects that students learn, they will more focus.

What is the point of schools? Is it about learning or just passing? Ironically, the school system in Indonesia is still concerned about grades. Following the example of Finnish education, which has the best school system in the world, there is no need to have standardized tests because it just makes students learn just to pass a test. Instead, all children in Finland are graded on an individualized basis and grading system set by their teacher. If grades on a test are no longer being the priority of Indonesian education, students will not have the fear of not passing a test so they will get excellent outcomes. They will learn how to learn, not learn how to pass a test.

The last one, the most important, is to improve the skills of the teachers. It is important because teachers play vital roles in the world of education. Teachers are not only teaching, but they also have to encourage students to be their best. Unfortunately, some of them only teach to fulfill their responsibility, without really teaching their students how to behave and pursue their dreams. Giving a training to teacher is the answer to this problem. The training has to include some activities on how to make a strong connection with students. Increasing the quality of the teachers will improve the quality of education as well.

It is really important to consider the amount of the subjects, concentrate on the knowledge instead of grades, and improve the quality of the teachers, in order to make Indonesian education better. However, to do those solutions are not as easy as falling off a log. It needs a lot of efforts to make a big change. After all, if Indonesia does those things, the world of education in Indonesia may get brighter in the future.

Note: This is actually my school assignment lol. But I think there is nothing wrong to post it here. I know, I know... the solutions are still not that clear. It's actually just a short essay, but hey, let's get some coffee and talk about this deeper😔

Short Story: Hello You in the Future! (Learn from Covid-19)

Hello You in the Future!

New Recording

5m 14s

Uh… Hello? I mean, hi! Sorry, I don’t know how to use this. Is my voice clear? This is my first time using this tape recorder. I found it in my garage when I was so bored I didn’t even know what to do anymore. Not even painting and reading books can help me to get rid of my boredom. I have stayed at home for four months! I swear, four months! Can you imagine that? That’s why I record this to you—whoever you are—in the future.

My dad suggested me to do this. He said, “Hey, sweetheart (yes, he still calls me with that even though I am now 15 years old, not his little baby anymore) why don’t you find my tape in the garage and record about what happens now to anyone in the future so they will know and we will remember this?” At first, I thought that was ridiculous. I mean, who even wants to hear about a great pandemic, right? Most people want to hear great stories that have a happy ending like what Disney always gives. And I’m sure, a story about a pandemic is not on their list. But then I think… hey! It’s not a bad idea tho! I love to do different things. Besides, I’m sure this will be a great treasure when it is found in the future. Well, who knows?

So… Where do I start? When a new virus found in 2019? Or when the virus spreads in almost every country in this world? OR… when everyone’s going nuts because toilet papers are suddenly hard to get? Yes, guys, it is that worst. I shouldn’t say nuts—it’s not a good word—but I cannot help it.

Hey… wait a minute. Have I told my name? I think I haven’t introduced myself. Okay, my name is Lizzie, short for Elizabeth. Last month, I celebrated my 15 birthday. Oh, by the way, today is May 2020 and it means I was born in April. I think that’s not really important. I shouldn’t say that. Ugh, I’m really bad at telling a story.

Well, well… Let’s talk about this virus again. As you listening to this, you probably wonder; what kind of virus? Is vampire real? Is that what you mean: vampire attacks? Or is it because of zombies? Yeah, I hope it must have something to do with vampires, zombies, or even monsters. But no, my friend, no. This is only because of a virus. A tiny virus that is called corona and caused a disease called Covid-19.

Coronavirus spreads through the air in the form of a droplet. That’s why we, people in 2020, have to wear masks wherever we go. We also have to wash our hands every time. I’m not an expert on this issue, so that’s all what I can say about Covid-19.

This condition forces us to limit social interaction as possible as we can. And for the first time in my life, I have to study at home. We, students, can’t go to school like what we always do. Workers also do their work at home. Even some people lost their job because of this condition. I feel so bad for them.

Huh, are you sad too, Rush?

Sorry, guys, I was talking to Rush, my cat. He gave me a sad face when I said people lost their job. He has a big heart.

Oh, come here, Rush. Do you want to say hello to these people in the future? No? Well, okay…

So Rush just want to sleep in my bed, like what he always does.

So then… Um… What was I talking about?

Well, the point is, Covid-19 makes everything complicated. We can’t go to school or work, or even hang out with our friends. Yeah, I hate that! But the deeper I think about this, the more I see good things from this condition. Like what my grandmother said, “Every cloud has a silver lining.”

Somehow, when we are too busy to do our daily routines, we can’t appreciate the little things we have, for example, our family. Sometimes we are too tired to interact with our siblings because we often come home late. But now, when all people have to stay at home 24/7, we can interact more. We talk about our life, our problems, and everything more to our siblings or our parents (because they all what we have at last!).

To get rid of the boredom because of staying at home, I love to do something new, just like what I’m doing now. Most of the time, I cook with my mom and my little sister. I learn so many new things from my mom! I even think maybe I can be a chef someday. Yeah, Covid-19 gives me new hope and a new skill!

And I think I’m more patient now. Haha. Yeah, I think I am. We have to stay at home and we can’t meet our friends face to face. Every time I miss my friends, all I can do is calling them. But it’s okay. We all hope this pandemic ends so that we can meet again. See how patient I am?

Oh, and the most thing I really love about Covid-19 is I finally realize that there are so many generous people. They help people in need. So many charities are also held because of Covid-19. No matter who you are and what you do, people care about you. They are so kind!

Yeah, my grandmother was right, “Every cloud has a silver lining.” No matter how bad the condition is, there must be, at least, a positive side. We only have to open our eyes to realize that.

Even though there are so many people who died because of Covid-19 and how bad the effects of Covid-19 are, there are also good things that we can learn. Don’t blame darkness, just burn a candle.

So… yeah, I hope you guys are healthy and have a good life. I’m sure we will win this pandemic and this pandemic will end so that you guys in the future will hear this tape recorder! But if we’re not… Well, I don’t want to even think about that.

I just hope this pandemic ends soon so I can go to school and meet my friends again!

Rush, do you want to say goodbye?

Rush: Meow.

Good boy! Well, guys, I think I will end this record now. I want to make cookies with my mom. I love chocolate so maybe we will make that! Well, bye!

1.       All the Bright Places – Jennifer Niven (4.1/5⭐)

Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him.

Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death.
When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.

Tapi sayangnya menurut aku sih filmnya terlalu cepat alurnya hehe. I prefer the book to the movie.

2.       Laut Bercerita - Leila S. Chudori (4.5/5⭐)

Jakarta, Maret 1998

(Nah, kan, sampai ingat Tuhan) bahasanya sangat-sangat apa ya… bagus banget??? Tinggi??? Ya, aku suka pokoknya!

4.       My (Not So) Perfect Life - Sophie Kinsella (3.7/5⭐)

Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe. Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie's life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle--from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she's trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she's desperate to make her dad proud.
Then, just as she's finding her feet--not to mention a possible new romance--the worst happens. Demeter fires Katie. Shattered but determined to stay positive, Katie retreats to her family's farm in Somerset to help them set up a vacation business. London has never seemed so far away--until Demeter unexpectedly turns up as a guest. Secrets are spilled and relationships rejiggered, and as the stakes for Katie's future get higher, she must question her own assumptions about what makes for a truly meaningful life.

Sophie Kinsella is celebrated for her vibrant, relatable characters and her great storytelling gifts. Now she returns with all of the wit, warmth, and wisdom that are the hallmarks of her bestsellers to spin this fresh, modern story about presenting the perfect life when the reality is far from the truth

Karya Sophie Kinsella emang nggak meragukan lagi bagusnya. Selalu aja sederhana, sangat realistis, dan kocak. Aku suka banget ide soal gadis desa dan gadis kota. Pokonya, buku ini page-turning banget!

5.       Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck (3.8/5⭐)

Drifters in search of work, George and his simple-minded friend Lennie have nothing in the world except each other and a dream -- a dream that one day they will have some land of their own. Eventually they find work on a ranch in California’s Salinas Valley, but their hopes are doomed as Lennie, struggling against extreme cruelty, misunderstanding and feelings of jealousy, becomes a victim of his own strength.

Tackling universal themes such as the friendship of a shared vision, and giving voice to America’s lonely and dispossessed, Of Mice and Men has proved one of Steinbeck’s most popular works, achieving success as a novel, a Broadway play and three acclaimed films.

Buku ini jujur aja agak sedikit… dark. Tapi bagus banget! Meskipun ceritanya singkat, tapi pelajarannya dalam.  Persahabatan antar dua tokoh sangat love-able banget.

6.       The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho (3.8/5⭐)

Paulo Coelho's enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world. This story, dazzling in its powerful simplicity and soul-stirring wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried near the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles in his path. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.

7.       Finding Audrey - Sophie Kinsella (3.7/5⭐)

Audrey can't leave the house. she can't even take off her dark glasses inside the house.

Then her brother's friend Linus stumbles into her life. With his friendly, orange-slice smile and his funny notes, he starts to entice Audrey out again - well, Starbucks is a start. And with Linus at her side, Audrey feels like she can do the things she'd thought were too scary. Suddenly, finding her way back to the real world seems achievable.

Lagi-lagi karya Sophie Kinsella. Habis aku suka banget, sih! Ceritanya ringan, kocak, dan realistis. Meskipun tokoh mengalami social anxiety, Sophie Kinsella menggambarkannya dengan sederhana hingga pembaca mengerti. Oh, ya, aku paling suka tokoh Linus! Dia book boyfriend-able banget huhu.

8.       Di Tanah Lada - Ziggy Zezsyazeoviennazabrizkie (3.9/5⭐)

Namanya Salva. Panggilannya Ava.

9.       A Man Called Ove - Fredrik Backman (4.3/5⭐)

A grumpy yet loveable man finds his solitary world turned on its head when a boisterous young family moves in next door.

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon, the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him the bitter neighbor from hell, but must Ove be bitter just because he doesn't walk around with a smile plastered to his face all the time?

Behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove's mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents' association to their very foundations.

Ceritanya hangat, aku suka! Baca buku ini buat aku ketawa sampai nangis.

10.   The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini (4.2/5⭐)

The unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father’s servant, The Kite Runner is a beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption; and an exploration of the power of fathers over sons—their love, their sacrifices, their lies.

A sweeping story of family, love, and friendship told against the devastating backdrop of the history of Afghanistan over the last thirty years, The Kite Runner is an unusual and powerful novel that has become a beloved, one-of-a-kind classic.

Is it okay to feel stupid?

02.19 Posted by amaliasals No comments

dapet kan poinnya apa? aku emang suka ngebingungin orangnya:(

"aset, pak."
"liabilitas."
"asset."

WAAAAHH!!! Aku seneng banget!

awalnya aku ngerasa jadi manusia yang paling bodoh di antara temen-temen aku karna setiap pertemuan akuntansi aku selalu aja lemot, ga ngerti, salah. tapi, karena rasa "bodoh" itulah aku jadi belajar dengan giat dan ternyata hasilnya memang memuaskan. aku bersyukur banget, alhamdulillah.

jadi poinnya, emang bener, kita sebagai manusia, apalagi pelajar, seharusnya merasa "bodoh" biar terus berusaha keras untuk menjadi pintar (mencari ilmu). nggak apa-apa kok, merasa bodoh! yang salah itu saat kita memang merasa bodoh tapi kita nggak mau mengubahnya. Inget apa kata Imam Syafi'i:

I Recommend You These 5 Best Series

My life is so boring that I watch many TV series. LOL. The excitement of watching series always makes me alive. And here, I want to share my happiness with you all!

Mystery, friendship, and monsters altogether! This is Stranger Things!

Released in 2015, Stranger Things now has released 3 seasons and fans are now waiting for season 4. This series is set in the 90’s and tells us a story about mysterious things happened in Indiana Polis city. Because of the unknown lab that tried to open another “world”, stranger things happened. A boy missing, stranger things happened, what is exactly going on!?

If you love mystery, horror, drama, and comedy at the same time, this series is the answer! I guarantee you, even every season is getting better and better! Season 3 is my favorite! Let’s join this stranger fam!

First published as a book written by John Green, in 2019 finally this book adapted to a series. I personally surprise knowing it’s not a movie but a series. I mean, how come??? But, it turns out good. Really, really good. Amazing! Fantastic!
This is a story about an innocent new kid who meets a cheerful, smart, and mysterious girl, Alaska Young. This series shows us the life of the boarding school students, those who love art, those who love literature, and the desires and dreams of teenagers.
Well, let’s not forget how 2015 Tumblr us stan Alaska Young and her quotes, “Y’all smoke to enjoy it. I smoke to die.” ZWEVJOUBERPASKKLDBIFBIV
You will be not disappointed. Adapted movies/series are worst??? No. We can’t label that for this series. I read the book and watched the series and I love them both.

This one also originally based on a book under the same title but honestly I haven’t read the book yet so I can’t compare them.

Five siblings grew up in a famous haunted house. They're finally reunited as adults because of the suicide death of their sister. And they force to come back to the haunted house and confront the ghosts of their pasts
.
Do I love horror? Not really. But for this series, I can say I love it!

This is a science fiction series and the characters are superheroes!

Again, this series is based on books. I haven’t read them (but I’d love to!). The story is about a man who adopted children who were born different. He taught them to improve their skill. Later on, after he died, his children finally come together to save the world from an unexpected event.

To be honest, I don’t love superheroes’ things and stuff. Call me lame but I don’t watch Marvel movies… but this one? I really love it! Totally in love and cannot wait for the next season!

It is super short, yet very unforgettable and amazing!

Alyssa and James relationship is not like other relationships out there. It’s pure, lovely, and honest (is it!?). James always think he is a psychopath, and Alyssa just want to go from her miserable life. Together, they wander around and in the middle of their journey, they did something that will haunt them.
I love, love, love the characters! Alyssa and James, I ship them! I also love the music, setting, and the graphic in this series. I can say this is a masterpiece.

Let me know which one is your favorite once you have watched them, will you? And please email me your favorite series so maybe I can watch it too!😄

See you!
