For about 13 years I have been a student in Indonesia, I have gone through many difficulties. The hardest part of being a student is when I have to be able to master many subjects at the same time. To make it even worse, the school system is so concerned with the grades of the students instead of the knowledge itself. Besides those, another problem is that the quality of Indonesian teachers is still low. Those problems can be solved by cutting back the subjects, improving the skills of the teachers, and focusing on the knowledge instead of scores.
The first solution is to cut back and simplify
subjects in school. Too many subjects can make students stressed. Add to the
fact that people have their interests and dreams. It is impossible for a person
to master all of the subjects at the same time. Even the most genius person in
the world is not really genius as in mastering all things in this world. Cutting
back subjects and simplifying them can make the burden of the students and the
teachers disappear. With fewer subjects that students learn, they will more focus.
What is the point of schools? Is it about
learning or just passing? Ironically, the school system in Indonesia is still
concerned about grades. Following the example of Finnish education, which has
the best school system in the world, there is no need to have standardized
tests because it just makes students learn just to pass a test. Instead, all
children in Finland are graded on an individualized basis and grading system
set by their teacher. If grades on a test are no longer being the priority of Indonesian
education, students will not have the fear of not passing a test so they will
get excellent outcomes. They will learn how to learn, not learn how to pass a
test.
The last one, the most important, is to improve
the skills of the teachers. It is important because teachers play vital roles
in the world of education. Teachers are not only teaching, but they also have
to encourage students to be their best. Unfortunately, some of them only teach to
fulfill their responsibility, without really teaching their students how to
behave and pursue their dreams. Giving a training to teacher is the answer to
this problem. The training has to include some activities on how to make a strong
connection with students. Increasing the quality of the teachers will improve
the quality of education as well.
It is really important to consider the amount of
the subjects, concentrate on the knowledge instead of grades, and improve the
quality of the teachers, in order to make Indonesian education better. However,
to do those solutions are not as easy as falling off a log. It needs a lot of
efforts to make a big change. After all, if Indonesia does those things, the
world of education in Indonesia may get brighter in the future.

Note: This is actually my school assignment lol. But I think there is nothing wrong to post it here. I know, I know... the solutions are still not that clear. It's actually just a short essay, but hey, let's get some coffee and talk about this deeper😔
